About

Welcome to Whitstable Larder founded in 2013 by Catherine Glanfield.

Whitstable Larder is an online retailer of Kentish food and drink. We are also a small food producer of award winning sausage rolls and vegetarian savoury bakes since 2013. We supply Deli Boxes, Food Boxes, Hampers and Gifts which you can order here from our website. We source from Whitstable High Street, as well as small artisan producers from in and around Kent.

We are members of Produced in Kent who champion some of the best this county has to offer. We love to connect you, the customer to independent retailers in Whitstable and small food and drink producers in and around Kent as well as tell you their stories.

We would like to invite you to take a moment from your busy schedule to stop, and come follow us through the door into the brimming larder. We hope you enjoy and share some of our hand-picked goodies from ‘The Garden of England’. We are looking forward to expanding our range as our business grows. Please contact us to say hello and let us know what you would like to see here as we value any feedback. Please also take a moment to sign up to our newsletter.

A Kentish Tale: Catherine’s mother Gill was raised on a smallholding in East Kent during the war before leaving Kent as a young woman to study. Gill married Maurice in London in the early 60’s and they had three children together. Gill remained a country girl at heart however resulting in the family moving from leafy Hampstead in the 1970s to the rural Cotswolds to live 'The Good Life'.

Catherine spent her teens discovering a passion for cooking using the best quality ingredients straight from the land where they reared their own animals and kept a kitchen garden with the aim of becoming
self-sufficient.

Catherine Glanfield - Founder Whitstable LarderFrom Whitstable Larder's beginnings as a kitchen table start-up baking delicious homemade savouries for Whitstable Farmers Market, the business moved to The Goods Shed in Canterbury. An indoor farmers market and food lovers mecca for those in the know, The Goods Shed attracts a string of well-known foodies as well as discerning local shoppers, commuters and casual diners. Whitstable Larder operated a permanent café space there gaining a following for their award-winning Classic Titan Sausage Rolls using free-range pork as well as Kentish Land Girl Homity Pies, quiches and delicious salads.

At the heart of Whitstable Larder’s ethos is a belief in the need to find ways of living more sustainably both in our use of resources as well as how we feed ourselves. We aim to tread lightly, minimising waste and our use of plastic as well as support local producers and businesses which in turn helps to provide jobs locally and enrich the local economy.

From our own ethical food range alongside Kent small food & drink producers, we believe in helping to keep food traditions alive. Traditional methods of food production tend to keep the nutritional value of the food, have a lower carbon footprint as well as often being mouth-wateringly delicious.

Whitstable Larder is a local producer itself of sausage rolls, and vegetarian bakes delivered ready to bake to local cafes, farm shops and delis. These are an ethically driven product containing free-range pork and no palm oil. The range includes ‘The Classic Titan’ Taste of Kent award-winning sausage roll 2015. If you have a local café or deli and would like to know more, please get in touch.

Whitstable Larder is now curating gift boxes and hampers for purchase online or for local corporate gifts. If you are a local business in the Whitstable, Canterbury, Faversham or Herne Bay area and would like to know more about our corporate gift boxes and hampers, please get in touch, and we can help to arrange.
